My wife Kelle and I had a weekend house on a lake that was built in the 1970's - a small ranch that served us well as a weekend house. We were interested in transforming the house into something we might live in permanently and hired Springhouse Architects to help us see the possibilities. The challenge was our lot was narrow but long with lake frontage and due to the water table no real option for a basement. Our wish list was long ... a bigger house, lots of space for the grandkids, a swimming pool and hot tub for those who prefer the clear water, a home cook's paradise for a kitchen, a home office, la second "master" on the first floor for when we grow older, lots of storage (and a three car garage), an exercise room, big open spaces, elements of a seaside home but also a nod to the mountains (we love to ski ...). Somehow Sheri and her team pulled all of this off for us! We now have a beautiful lake house that we've enjoyed immensely along with our family and grandkids! The home is spacious and comfortable with high, soaring ceilings, a view from the street right through the house to the lake, a huge kitchen with tons of cooking and prep space (with timber beams on the ceiling to give a mountain lodge feel to this part of the house), and spacious master bathroom with soaking tub, shower for two, an upstairs laundry, and a huge walk-in master closet. There are decks on both floors overlooking the lake with a covered portion off of he master bedroom for morning coffee and relaxing before bed. Every room with a lake view has its own access to one of the two decks. The home is perfect in every regard and for now, while we are still working, it is truly a sanctuary where we can get away from it all! I cannot say enough about Sheri and her team. Just look at the list of things we wanted in the home and you realize that her talents and vision were the perfect match for the challenge - I'm not sure who else would have been able to pull all of this off. I'd say the two challenges that Springhouse solved for us were: 1) Engineering the height of the garage suitable to gain larger garage door space and a better rec-room space above and 2) Re-configuring the almost entire layout of the lower part of our house to fit our needs and use for the space.
We moved into our newly re-modeled home just weeks before COVID/quarantine hit and we were so comforted to be living and working in a new space with lots of light and new appliances to cook with. The total time at home also allowed us to think about decorating and come up with decor solutions for our new living and bedroom spaces. Quarantine really kick-started our new house to becoming our home.
Our favorite thing about working with Springhouse was the attention to detail. Our home is just over 100 years old (as discovered in our ceiling) and we love the original detail in our old home. Keeping that in mind with the design and layout, we were able to continue with the old details but make it new. The kitchen is easily our most favorite space and we were able to make it bigger, raise the ceiling to add in the wooden beams we liked, and design it around our treasured large farmhouse sink. I love that our home no longer has wasted spaces and that Springhouse helped us to incorporate every space in our living design.

We loved working with Springhouse Architects. We wanted to do a fairly extensive remodeling of our house. We had ideas of what was important to us, but no idea how to make those ideas come to life. Sheri at Springhouse was a fantastic partner. We shared our ideas, and she and her team came back with several options. We discussed and settled on one we were thrilled with. We were so pleased with the design they created. It hit the sweet spot on scope and cost that we had asked for. It met all our requirements, and also had several nice surprises built in without us even asking. Specifically, I was impressed with how they were able to incorporate design elements to keep the overall aesthetics of an older house intact, while still providing the upgrades we desired. In addition to creating an excellent plan, we were very pleased with the process. Sheri and her team communicated well. They were on schedule and on budget. Later in the process, we worked with their Designer, Lindsey, who helped guide us through selections including flooring/lighting/plumbing fixtures/tiles/paints, etc. The end result was excellent, and far better than we ever could have done on our own.
